I hold my head in my hands when I’m feeling down,
The pills are my best-friends when you’re out of town.
I hold my breath just to hear my thoughts,
And I hold my thoughts just to hear my breath,
I don’t want to be on my own,
But this smoky sickness is my only witness.
The colors blend and I can almost touch the clouds…
But my eyes open wide, and my feet are still on the ground.
I breathe in the toxins of the polluted fresh-air,
But I’m polluted to the core,
Too intoxicated to care.
C’mon, we’ll live like we’ve got short-term memory,
But make every moment like Elvis Presley:
Make it once in a lifetime,
Make it go down in history,
And we won’t try to make it,
And we won’t try to fake it,
Because time will never stop for you or me
but I’m the only ruler of this town.
Time stops now,
Under these weeping willows.
I’ll lie here star-seeking,
Sleeping and coaxing the ringing from my ears,
And the stars from my eyes.
These paper trees will never fade,
Like wandering dust or grains of sand
Slipping through my wailing fingers.
I’ll sleep here tonight,
Dream under this crying canopy.
I’ll meld into this moment
Until I can’t see your face in the dark,
And they’ll never know I was here.
